Trent Cotney’s new book arms contractors with legal insights and compliance strategies.

Roofing regulations can be hard to navigate. From shifting policies to differences across state lines, there’s a lot to keep up with. In fact, after the skilled labor crisis, keeping up with the expansion and changes of regulatory agencies is one of the biggest challenges for today’s contractors. Luckily, you can learn everything you need to know from the expert himself, who literally wrote the book on it!

Trent Cotney, partner at Adams and Reese, published a book titled OSHA Defense: For the Construction Industry. This is a powerful tool for contractors, trade professionals, designers, suppliers, manufacturers and anyone in the roofing industry looking to better understand the recent expansion of the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA).

Trent is the perfect person to gain insight from. He has spent almost three decades serving the industry through his roofing litigation and arbitration expertise. He is a member of the National Roofing Contractors Association (NRCA) and is general counsel to the West Coast Roofing Contractors Association (WCRCA), the Florida Roofing and Sheet Metal Association (FRSA) and National Women in Roofing (NWIR). For his outstanding work, Trent has received coveted industry awards such as the Byron Curry Memorial Achievement Award (2009), FRSA’s President’s Award (2008), the Earl Blank “Heart” Award (2010) and NRCA’s Gold Circle Award for Service to the Industry (2014).

The book covers everything you need to know, from your rights during an active OSHA inspection to critical defenses to use after a citation has been issued. Further, it includes helpful information about “safety compliance, recordkeeping and reporting, responsible use of social media, constitutional protections, witness statements, settlements with OSHA, willful citations, and a discussion of defenses including unpreventable employee misconduct, multi-employer site defense and the greater hazard defense.”
