Top January 2025 Stories: Industry changes and innovative products

Here at CoatingsCoffeeShop® we kicked off the new year in style! Check out our top five articles from this month.

January has been a busy month, both at The Coffee Shops™ and in the larger industry! In the coatings industry, January 1 marked the first day of a nationwide ban on the manufacturing of HFC closed-cell SPF systems. The Spray Polyeurathane Foam Alliance (SPFA) reported that this is part of a shift in the industry “from closed-cell foams using HFC blowing agents to systems using low GWP (global warming potential) HFO blowing agents. The new HFO blowing agents significantly reduce the carbon footprint of closed-cell SPF compared to HFC foams.”

There was also a lot of chatter about new coatings products! California Sports Surfaces shared an interesting article about how their Wipe-Out® Stain Blocker primer can have a huge impact on the long-term appearance of an athletic surface. And Coffee Shops writer Jesse Sanchez wrote about how AkzoNobel’s CERAM-A-STAR 1050 Expression Standard offers a far more tactile and visual experience than traditional coatings, enhancing the appearance of metal sidewalls overall.

Another article by Jesse highlighted the metal maintenance MetalTalk with Gaco took the number one spot this month! The article describes the different actionable strategies to maximize the lifespan of metal roofing systems while reducing long-term costs that were covered in the episode — specifically how taking a proactive approach to maintenance is key!

Here’s the January top 5 most read articles:
