If you think back to 10 years ago, coatings were far less established in the roofing world than they are today. In fact, there were a significant number of industry professionals that had bad experiences with installing coatings and having them leak within the year. In this episode of CoatingsCast, Karen Edwards chats with John Linnell and Gabe Goepfert from Everest Systems to learn how high-quality manufacturers like Everest have changed that opinion over the last decade.
The key to the growth of the coatings industry has been the development of better technologies and products. John shared, “It’s all about identifying a need and then developing solutions in R&D.” It is dedication to this process, which is often a lot of trial and error in the lab, that has made Everest one of the most innovative coating manufacturers out there.
Gabe also pointed out that Everest’s willingness to manufacture a variety of different types of coatings has been key to their success in innovation. He shared, “We manufacture silicone, acrylic, polyurethane foam sealants and now polyurea as well. So we have a real blessing in the sense that we're not just one material that we manufacture, we can tailor these systems to really fit whatever the particular roof is requiring. Too often people come up with one thing and assume it’s the answer for everything and that doesn't lend itself to be the best option. We want to find those options.”
The result of this? Innovative and reliable products such as the Evercoat HT and the Silkoxy system. John shared a bit about these products, saying, “Our high tensile product Evercoat HT stays whiter than any other roofing product, whether it's PVC, TPO or other coating systems. We had a product in Louisiana that's over 10 years old, and it still looks bright white, which is just unheard of. And then the Silkoxy system compared to literally every other silicone out there is that it has primeless adhesion to most substrates. It has twice the flexibility of most of the other products out there and doesn't smell.”
In addition to the work that Everest puts into these types of projects during the research and development phase, they also put a lot of support and resources into helping contractors in the field use them successfully. Gabe elaborated, “Other people go through distribution, which is great, but it has been very effective for us to have a direct relationship with our contractors... It means that we can talk to them and understand what the goals of the project really are and make sure we're putting a solution out there that is right for that roof.”
