Staying competitive in the industry

Staying competitive in the industry

Learn how Topps Products has stood the test of time by backing up their quality products with social responsibility.

Topps Products has been a staple in the roof coating industry for over 65 years now. For this episode of CoatingsCast®, Sarah Mark, Wayne Altizer, Mario Villasenor and Giovanni Lemus stopped by The Coffee Shops™ to talk to Megan Ellsworth about how they have stood the test of time.

Over the years, Topps has become well-known, both in the U.S. and abroad for their sustainable and high-performance products. It is their dedication to continual innovation and improvement that has fostered Topps’ decade-spanning success. Giovanni explained, “We constantly move forward, have new solutions, first, that fill the needs of the market and then also that align with our portfolio of solutions. That's the main goal. We have a good variety of solutions in our portfolio and when we see something new that we don't have, we try to have alliances with other manufacturers to offer solutions that complement the products that we offer. That’s how we stay competitive.”

A great example of their innovative products is their Polyprene coating. Mario shared a bit about the product, saying, “The reason Polyprene is such a big product of ours is it's an all rubber sealant designed to have long resistance. Customers really love this product, because they can use it on flat roofs, on commercial roofs, but the best thing that customers really love about this is that it has a two-year shelf life, even after they open it.”

Backing up their high-quality products is Topps’ dedication to putting their team and communities first. Sarah explained, “We really prioritize our corporate social responsibility. That's why a lot of our products are sustainable because we want to make sure that we're not contributing to climate change and other things that harm our communities.” Another example of how Topps values their communities is their emphasis on supporting and hiring veterans. Wayne elaborated, “Topps is a veteran-owned company, and we make a very valid effort to hire veterans and specifically disabled veterans... The value of hiring veterans is, they've already proven their chops. They already have taken it on the chin for the country and we feel like it's a good way for us to give back to them and to that community.”
