Keeping up with your KPIs

Keeping up with your KPIs

Learn what key performance indicators are and how optimizing them can help your business.

Taking a step back and evaluating your business for performance and growth opportunities can be difficult when you are enveloped in day-to-day operations. In this CoatingsTalk® webinar, Karen Edwards sat down with Kari Aderhold from Aderhold Roofing, John Kenney from Cotney Consulting Group and Zach Carpenter from Jobba to discuss how key performance indicators (KPIs) can help give you the big picture perspective on your business.

At its core, a KPI is about paying attention to your business’s most important data. This can be hard to do, as Kari explained, “When you're running a business and you have revenue coming through the door, you have payroll you're making, you're paying material invoices and more. There's just a lot of data in the day-to-day life that can consume you and can burn you out if you don't have the ability to harness that data and put it into dashboards or reports that make sense to you.”

Luckily, Jobba’s technology gives contractors the ability to organize and harness that data easily through their innovative reporting tools, which bring together their existing roofing software with Microsoft’s Power BI (a business analytics service). Zach shared a bit about how it works, saying, “The way our software works is you're building a history for a building or for your customer. And with that historical record, what you've ultimately done is create the data that can be leveraged.”

KPIs can be utilized to help your business in many different ways, but one of the biggest benefits is how you can use them to keep your operations on track. John explained, “The idea of a KPI is to be the forward-looking view. So, let's use an example of overtime in a generalized roofing company. Let’s say I can accept up to 5% overtime rate in a week. That would be your KPI.” By utilizing Jobba’s software, you can set the program up to feed data and automatically calculate your percentages for each month. If the calculation is under what you've decided is acceptable for a monthly basis (that 5%), then you're good. If it goes over, that's a problem. By utilizing the right software that can easily give you these types of insights on your KPIs, you can level up your business management.
