Putting the spotlight on the coatings industry

Navigating everything from new building codes, training requirements and more as coatings become an increasingly popular roofing solution. 

As building owners and professionals in the field realize the power and potential of the coatings industry, it has grown incredibly rapidly. From energy efficiency benefits to extending an existing roof’s lifespan, coatings are changing the roofing and construction industry. To catch up on everything that is happening with the coatings industry, whether that be building codes and regulations or the positions available in the sector, Karen Edwards is hosting Greg Hlavaty and Hal Leland of Western Colloid for a CoatingsTalk on October 9, 2024 at 11 a.m. PT (2 p.m. ET).  

Greg has been working in the industry since the early 1980s and is the current president of Western Colloid. His expertise and leadership have also been directed towards the Roof Coating Manufacturers Association (RCMA) as their past president and now as a member of the board of directors. In his current role, he gets to see the coatings sector from a variety of perspectives, as he explained, “Western Colloid is focused on three very important areas: consultation, field support and training. Our employees work closely with contractors to provide exemplary support.”  

Hal similarly has an extensive background in the industry, with over thirty years of work at Western Colloid. He is currently the general manager for the Northern California and Pacific Rim regions. In addition to his work within the company, he lends his experience as a voting member at ASTM International, co-chairs the Codes and Standards Task Force for the RCMA and holds a position on the board of directors for the Cool Roofing Rating Council (CRRC).  

In this webinar, the duo will combine their knowledge and walk attendees through the current state of the coatings industry. This will include conversations about specific areas, such as California’s energy building codes and Florida’s insurance regulations, along with more broad discussion of training opportunities and the roles of consultants in terms of roof restorations.
