Roof rescue reinvented

Roof rescue reinvented

From patching in the rain to eliminating ponding water, these products  are solving real-world roofing challenges.

In this episode of CoatingsCast, host Karen Edwards sat down with Rick Murphy of Everest Systems to explore the company’s most innovative and surprisingly adaptable products. The latter half of the conversation reveals the true depth of Everest’s focus: not just making coatings, but solving problems that other manufacturers might overlook.

Among the standouts discussed is Eco-Level, a two-part chemical compound originally developed to eliminate ponding water. What started as a niche solution quickly grew in popularity, with contractors using it in unexpected ways, from filling blisters in asphalt and foam roofs to correcting drainage issues caused by poorly installed vents. “We didn’t have any idea how huge a market it was going to be,” Rick admits. “We’ve had people that filled potholes with it and drywall.”

But perhaps the most compelling innovation is Silkoxy, Everest’s alkoxy-blend silicone coating. Unlike traditional silicones, Silkoxy eliminates the strong odor, a major advantage for schools or hospitals where ventilation can spread fumes indoors. “Smell is a big thing,” Rick says. “I’ve actually been run off a roof because of the smell of some products in the past.” Silkoxy doesn’t need mixing, adheres without primer in most cases and includes specialty variants like Silkoxy Flashing Grade and Silkoxy Patch, the latter being a fibered silicone capable of sticking to wet surfaces and even working underwater. Rick notes, “It’s the only silicone product that I know of on the market that will actually stick to a wet surface.”

EverSeal, Everest’s flagship sealant, also returns to the spotlight. Its versatility is unmatched, sticking to nearly every roofing surface and earning its reputation as a contractor’s Swiss Army knife. As Rick states, “If you could only have one of our products, EverSeal would be the one.”

Th conversation also covers Everest’s direct-to-contractor model, a deliberate decision that allows the company to control training, ensure correct usage and build trust. Illustrating Everest’s hands-on approach to contractor support, Rick says, “If we have somebody that's using our product, we go out and just spend some time with them on the first job or two.”
