Thomas Roofing stands behind training on all roof systems. We believe if you invest in your employee then you get your investment returned. Not to mention the employee feels more security in their job. We require 40 hours of training per year for all our crews and require our coating crew to attend at least two manufacturers training a year and be certified for that manufacturer. The training class is typically a day and a half so its worth the investment.
Not to mention the perception of “painting the roof” and it’s far from that. If you have a roof that is leaking and has issues, they must be addressed prior to installing a coating system. The coating system is not the “fixer” if there are issues. It can create more issues. So having a crew that is trained to perform the repairs prior to the coating system is imperative. And the devil is in the details. If the details for the coating system aren’t performed, then there will be failure in the system.
Also, there is specialty equipment to use when installing a coating system. So, if you don’t have the knowledge of the equipment, you can tear your equipment up and not have a successful job. You can’t grab a technician that day to run your spray rig and hope to have a successful job and not tear up the equipment. It takes a technician that running the spray rig is “their job."
Unfortunately, the concept that anyone can paint a roof is wrong. It requires a skilled crew, and it doesn’t have to be a large crew but a crew that everyone has a job and understands the importance of the roof condition and details prior to ever installing the coating system. And you notice I refer to coatings as a “system” because to have a true warrantied job you are installing a system.
This is one I’m very passionate about and truly believe in the investment.
