CCS Influencer Shawn Morgan says that association, manufacturers, events and suppliers are all great resources for contractors trying to keep up with industry developments.

Every month, we reach out to industry leaders and experts (our CCS Influencers) to get their insights on ways that contractors in the coatings world can level up their expertise and skills. For July, we asked for tips and advice about where to find "Resources for contractors to continue to learn about advancements in product technologies and stay on top of new application techniques?" This is what Shawn Morgan, one of our influencers, had to share:

"We all know how fast things change in our industry... new products, better application methods, updated building codes, etc. It’s a lot to keep up with. If you're looking for ways to stay ahead of the curve, here are a few great resources:

  • Associations
  • Manufacturers
  • Events
  • Suppliers

Industry groups like the National Roofing Contractors Association (NRCA), ABC, Roof Coating Manufacturers Association (RCMA) and International Institute of Building Enclosure Consultants (IIBEC) offer solid technical updates, webinars, and even certifications. They’re worth checking in with regularly. As for manufacturers, they typically have great training programs specific to their materials. They offer some in person and some online. If you’re ever wondering about something new you’re seeing on jobs, chances are they’ve got a resource on it.

Trade shows and events like the International Roofing Expo (IRE), Spray Polyurethane Foam Alliance (SPFA), etc. are a goldmine for hands-on demos and new technologies. If you ever get a chance to go, it’s always worth it. And of course, reps and suppliers are often the first to hear about new stuff… don’t be shy about leaning on them."

Shawn Morgan is the vice president of revenue & strategic partnerships for KPost Roofing & Waterproofing. Read his full bio here.
